Cetilar Racing wins fifth place in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
Another competition completed by the Cetilar Racing team, with a good fifth place in the LMP2 and eighth place overall (the best so far in the 2019-2020 season) in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the sixth appointment in the FIA WEC calendar.
It was a tough race. Not only because of the weather (the safety car had to be called in at the start of the race due to heavy rain), but above all due to a series of circumstances which made it impossible to do any better.
In the end, it was the best possible result for the Dallara n.47 managed by AF Corse and driven by Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Andrea Belicchi.
“We showed what we were capable of, despite the difficult conditions. But the car suffered from all those problems caused by the lack of development”, commented Roberto Lacorte, “For example, the rain made it almost impossible to have a clear view from inside the vehicle. It’s a real shame, because Andrea, Giorgio and I drove really well. But then in a World competition like the FIA WEC, what counts are the details. Unfortunately we haven’t had the support from Dallara we would have liked. Cetilar Racing has invested a lot, with resources and passion. But we will continue to look ahead. We are already working on an ambitious project for next year with AF Corse, but we will be telling you more about that soon”.
After winning seventh position in the qualifying rounds on Friday, Lacorte was the first to take the wheel, and was able to set a regular pace. In the first few minutes it stopped raining and after an hour Sernagiotto took over, and finally Belicchi. This cycle was repeated over the following three hours, when no great changes were made, with the exception of the safety car which returned to the track an hour and 20 minutes from the end, due to the huge crash involving Thomas Laurent’s Alpine, though luckily the driver was uninjured.
The next competition is the most important of the year. The 24 Hours of Le Mans, on 19 and 20 September, will see the Cetilar Racing team on the track for the fourth year running, after completing all three previous editions.
