Cetilar Racing at the finishing line of an extraordinary 24 Hours of Daytona
Thrills, surprises and a spectacular performance. A breath-taking final, with practically all the categories fighting for first place in the last few minutes of the race. The 24 Hours of Daytona 2022, was an exhilarating edition, and could have been a greater triumph for the Cetilar Racing team. But, inevitably affecting the result of the all-Italian team in the first of the four races in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup series were two shunts at the start in which the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 no.47 driven by Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto, Antonio Fuoco and Alessio Rovera was involved.
It was a shame, because the overall performance was very good and the final 14th place is far less than the only all-Italian team at the Florida event last weekend deserved.
As mentioned, the very first phases of this US endurance competition, which celebrated its 60th birthday this year, were quite hectic.
On the starting line on Saturday afternoon there was Sernagiotto. So at the end of the first hour, along with a Full Course Yellow, Lacorte took to the wheel. Then, a spin and contact with Frankie Montecalvo’s Lexus, which forced the driver from Tuscany to return to the pits with damage to the rear left-hand side of the car. An hour and a half in the pits and then back onto the track, where another incident penalised the Ferrari no. 47’s race.
And then the quiet after the storm, with all four drivers continuing the race in practically the same position up to the finishing line, always on the heel of those in front.
It is worth reminding of the excellent work done by the AF Corse team, which also provides technical support to the Cetilar Racing team car. As well as the good performance in three quarters of the race.
Certainly this 24 Hours of Daytona was useful for covering some miles and gaining even more experience ahead of the next races, the12 Hours of Sebring, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen and the Petit Le Mans.
And the next appointment in the series is in Sebring, from 16 to 19 March, an absolute first on this track for the Cetilar Racing team.
