FlyingNikka: ready for the regattas

2 MIN

We’re almost there, the countdown has begun and the excitement is building: really not long now for the competitive début of the FlyingNikka, on Monday in Porto Cervo, the first day of regattas in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2022. After an intensive round of tests and training sessions between Valencia and Punta Ala, the first full foiling boat in the Mini Maxi category –built at the King Marine shipyard in Valencia based on a design by a team of designers led by the Irishman Mark Mills – will be taking part in the event reserved for the world’s largest and fastest boats, from 5 to 10 September, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

This is absolutely the first regatta for the world’s most long-awaited, admired and “talked about” boat, the first of a new generation of racers destined to leave their mark. And to revolutionise the very concept of offshore navigation.

A special participation, as the FlyingNikka, with an IRC tonnage certificate, will join the new Mini Maxi 0 category, and will therefore experience the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup as an authentic “test event”, the first direct competition with other boats in the Maxi class.

The programme includes three days of coastal regattas (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) among the islands of the Maddalena archipelago, a rest day and then following that two more days of regattas, with the prize-giving ceremony planned for Saturday afternoon. On board, the crew captained by Roberto Lacorte with Alessio Razeto, Lorenzo Bressani, Enrico Zennaro, Andrea Fornaro and Lorenzo de Felice.

Meanwhile, since yesterday, the FlyingNikka is navigating off the coast of Porto Cervo, for tests today and tomorrow, among the general amazement and admiration for that which is, to all extents and purposes, the boat of the moment, a unique racer in both form and performance, able to reach speeds of over 30 knots…

Slightly under 19 metres long, equipped with T foils, the FlyingNikka can count on the partners B&G for the on-board electronics, North Sails for the sails, Montura for the official clothing, and the yards in Punta Ala Costa Etrusca and Marina di Punta Ala for the team base. Main sponsor of the campaign is Cetilar®, a brand of the PharmaNutra pharmaceutical company, with its Cetilar Racing division, successfully engaged in motorsport and in the growth of young athletes with the Cetilar Academy program.
